SOLUTIONS

We are the leader in wireless sensor networks and applications that provide decision-makers with unprecedented knowledge about their business operations, assets and environments. Our Wireless Sensor Networks Group is supported by the products and services of Xsilogy, Inc., which was acquired by SYS Technologies in December 2004.

Our wireless solutions provide a common platform for monitoring a wide range of industrial applications where the deployment of traditional cabled solutions is cost prohibitive or logistically impossible, and where real-time knowledge of process changes delivers critical safeguards and savings. Our end-to-end solutions can dramatically reduce operational costs, increase productivity, help to avoid catastrophic events, enable more efficient labor deployment, improve customer satisfaction and retention, and increase sales.

Applications

Laboratory Research Storage

Biotech and pharmaceutical laboratories rely on environmentally controlled storage units, such as incubators, freezers and refrigerators, to maintain the integrity of research products and samples. Improper storage procedures or the failure of a storage unit can easily result in the loss of millions of dollars in research time and materials. Frequently these critical assets are monitored manually by performing regularly scheduled temperature checks. However, when a few hours can mean the difference between saving the materials and discarding the unit's contents entirely, such programs are often inadequate and unreliable as thermal problems may go undetected until it is too late. A more reliable alternative to manual methods is dedicated central monitoring or building automation systems. While these solutions are effective, their hard-wired design is inherently expensive to install and maintain, and provides limited flexibility to expand or reconfigure the system. Our monitoring solution offers 24/7 monitoring and alarm notification of critical research assets. Based on a highly flexible wireless architecture, the system easily adapts to even the most dynamic laboratory facilities, allowing simple and cost effective expansion and reconfiguration by eliminating the need to install data cabling and conduit. Online analysis and reporting allows for remote monitoring from any computer with Internet access, providing continuous visibility of storage units and research materials from any location.

UPS Battery Systems

In order to ensure the safety of personnel and to safeguard the integrity of assets, there is an urgent need for a reliable and continuous supply of power. As a result, many businesses rely on battery back-up systems and related battery charging and system management tools that together comprise uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. Our BattGuard system continuously monitors the health of the individual batteries used in UPS systems to assure that they will function properly when called upon in emergency situations. Unlike planned maintenance programs wherein measurements of battery health are made between regular but long intervals, Battguard continuously monitors individual battery performance and identifies emerging problems before they threaten the overall performance of the UPS system.

Tank Inventory Management

Chemical inventories carry a tremendous value within a company's supply chain. Traditional inventory management approaches have centered on manual methods or dedicated hard-wired computing systems, both of which are limited in their ability to disseminate accurate and timely information across widely distributed sensor points. Specific safety requirements for bulk storage tanks and tank farms also make wiring prohibitive and manual monitoring a hazardous task. Our Tank Management System unlocks the value hidden within the supply chain by providing instant access to real-time tank inventory data, enabling both producers and their suppliers to more efficiently manage, schedule, and replenish inventory stocks to ensure a constant supply of raw materials and no interruptions to business operations.

Machine Condition

Machines such as engines, turbines, motors, pumps, compressors, and generators are the workhorses behind modern industrial plants and facilities. Left undetected, electrical and mechanical problems can result in equipment failures, and ultimately costly downtime. Condition monitoring programs focus on the continuous evaluation of machinery and assessing its electrical and mechanical condition based on key parameters, such as vibration response and dynamic performance characteristics. The detection of early stage deterioration allows maintenance to be performed on an "as-needed" basis, and ensures the maximum performance and productivity of machine assets. Unlike typical wired solutions, our systems are cost-effective to install and expand, and allows for the seamless distribution of information across the corporate enterprise.

Steam Distribution Systems

Steam is the most widely used heat-carrying medium in the world. Much of the focus of traditional steam maintenance programs is placed at the boiler, and not the miles of pipes and condensate return lines that comprise the total distribution system. Energy losses in the distribution system can be, and most often are, the largest source of energy loss. We provides real-time solutions for the remote monitoring of steam traps, a key component of typical distribution systems, to ensure proper operation and maximize system efficiency.

Commercial Buildings

Efficient HVAC systems for manufacturing, university, hotel, hospital and other commercial building operations require continuous monitoring and supervision. Disruption of these systems can interfere with production, inconvenience customers, or worse, shutdown operations entirely. Our wireless solutions present a cost-effective means for monitoring a broad range of HVAC processes and systems in order to optimize efficiency and avoid catastrophic events.

Equipment Utilization

Test instrumentation and other similar technology assets are a vital component of today's high-technology business environment. However, efficient utilization and management of these assets is often neglected or completely ignored. Manual utilization monitoring efforts are limited in resolution and timeliness, resulting in information that may no longer be pertinent to the current operating environment. Our wireless solutions provide real-time data and custom reports for electronic device utilization, allowing companies to limit retention of under-utilized assets, redeploy existing assets, and avoid needless new acquisitions.

Municipal Wastewater

Critical municipal wastewater processes operate around-the-clock and require constant monitoring. However, the sensors used to manage these processes are often distributed across a wide geographic area, sometimes miles apart from one another, making data collection and distribution difficult. Wired monitoring solutions are impractical and manual methods are inherently latent, often making collected information outdated and useless by the time it can be disseminated to personnel. Our wireless solutions have been designed specifically for use in harsh industrial environments and provide a scaleable, cost-effective means for monitoring distributed wastewater applications. Armed with real-time knowledge, local and remote operators can efficiently manage wastewater processes, more effectively utilize field personnel and receive automatic notifications in the event of process exceptions.

Recreational Water

Customer service and retention is a vital component to success in the highly competitive hospitality industry. Recreational water features such as pools and spas have become common amenities in modern hotels and resorts, yet represent significant sources of public health risks if improperly monitored and maintained. Our wireless monitoring solutions allow operators to continuously monitor changes in water chemistry and chemical inventories, and can automatically alert personnel to unacceptable conditions. Additionally, wireless network infrastructure can be easily installed with minimal disruption to guests and operations.
